"TUMBLR IS ANTI-BULLYING UNLESS UR STRAIGHT/WHITE/CIS/MALE!!!!!!" literally who has ever been bullied on here purely for those reasons im 99% willing to bet the people who claim to be victims of tumblr harassment for being white cishet males either made some bullshit…
You’re making fun of somebody for what they are, and if that isn’t bullying, then I’m going to be the next President of Botswana.
did you even read the original post
Yes I did. And I responded that bullying is bullying even if you dress it up with self-righteousness. You can’t demand equal treatment without being prepared to treat people as your equals.
ohhhh my god
people who claim to be “bullied” 99% of the time are privileged individuals who have said something ignorant and awful and the people who confront them about it are not bullies they are calling out someone who has said something oppressive
thats not “bullying”, that’s justice
now if people go to a privileged individual’s blog when the individual has done nothing to warrant abuse and tell them to kill themselves for the simple fact that they are privileged THAT is fucked up but that is such an incredibly unlikely scenario it doesnt even warrant attention
not to mention this is a fucking personal blog website if we want to complain about how we are mistreated by patriarchal/privileged societies then we fucking can if privileged individuals are looking for an “accepting community” literally just walk out your fucking front door because thats the entire world for you
and yes we fucking can demand equal treatment if we damn well please because y’know after being told our entire lives that we are lesser beings because of the color of our skin or the people we love or other aspects that are out of our control and harm nobody, it gets kind of tiring being told to “treat others equally”
we have tried being nice and its gotten us jack squat so fuck this “treat everyone equally if you also want to be treated equally” it is the privileged people who have to take that route, NOT US
Okay, you can say “wow, that’s pretty ignorant/rude/offensive” and explain why rather than being rude to people about. People generally don’t respond well to rudeness from anybody, even if there’s some sort justification, which there never is.
And if I say it once I’ll say it a hundred times: the ‘western’ countries have largely set the phasers to equality in statute, but the mindsets of the squishy carbon based entities that have to interpret and abide these laws largely hasn’t. Some of them can be persuaded to settle whatever grievances the may have. Some of them already don’t care and just try and treat everybody as fairly as possible; there’s even a few people we will just have to wait on until they die because their minds are not going to be changed. The real battle is in places like Saudi, where women can’t even drive or homosexuals in Uganda who are given a shitty time for being who they are.
Tl;dr? Societal change isn’t instantaneous, have a bit of patience and try being nice to people instead of being so fucking egregious all the damn time.
im so sick of being nice to people it literally gets me nowhere so please male human stop telling me how to handle my own oppression i will be polite to people who deserve it but after a lifetime of being told that i am incapable of things because i possess a uterus i feel like ive kinda earned the right to be a bitch if i want to
i have never made myself heard by being meek and polite i scream and swear and that is how i have convinced people of my validity as a human being so just stop
too much disney apologist shit floating around please accept that disney movies are 90% white as fuck and recognize that as a problem and realize that you can still enjoy disney movies and classics and whatever buT PLEASE UDNERSTAND THAT IT IS A VERY GOOD REASON for people to be ANGRY at disney and to adamantly point out the issues w/ disney movies plsplsplsplspls just
no one’s mad at you
no one’s gonna piss in your face if you enjoy frozen
but I will personally piss all over you if you argue that frozen doesn’t have some major fucking problems or that its problems don’t matter because they do a lot
The problem with the melting pot excuse for cultural appropriation is that that is exactly one of the problems of cultural appropriation. What happens when you melt something? It becomes part of the larger pot. It becomes indistinguishable. Do we really wanna forget what ingredients we use? No,…
i completely and utterly agree with this post 100% but i remember when i was a freshman in college one textbook i had said america shouldn’t be a melting pot (for the reasons stated) but instead a mixed salad
A feminist and an anti-feminist walk into a bar. They sit down and have a drink together because they’re adults who don’t let personal views effect their decisions on who they should or should not associate with.
can’t wait to go willingly spend my time with people who hold toxic views and treat me and my friends like garbage so that someone online thinks i’m an adult
last year at around this time, while we were in the studio recording “LOTGP”, we (mike, aaron, jake, chris & i) recorded this song for my annual mailing list x-mas song. it actually turned out to be one of my favorite recordings i’ve ever done… it’s just loose and off the cuff and it totally makes me smile every time i hear it. it’s a cover of “father christmas” by the kinks which, after ‘fairytale of new york’ by the pogues, is my vote for the best xmas song EVER. anyway, wanted you all to hear it. and have it… click through to the actual soundcloud page to download it. just click the download button and, boom, it’s yours. (and my apologies to my mailing list for not getting one done this year. maybe i’ll send a song for easter.)
There will come a time when you want to cut off all your hair. Do it. Realise that the thing you want rid of doesn’t lie in the long curls that frame your face so perfectly. Live with short hair for a while. It’ll grow.
You won’t always want to talk to people. That’s okay. When it’s late and you hear your friends talking in the next room, you don’t have to join them. You’re allowed your solitude. It makes company sweeter and it teaches you how to survive alone. You will need that skill.
In the winter, you’ll believe that nothing will ever grow again. You’re wrong. Every year, London looks like it’s on its last legs, wheezing through those last cold days in March. Every year, spring comes like an explosion and the city shakes off its sleep.
Mundane problems will get the better of you sometimes. Don’t worry. Try as you might, life cannot be an endless, beautiful, intense moment. Find comfort in money worries and late trains; they’re a welcome rest in between heartbreaks and breakdowns.
People will call you a cynic, a wry smile on their faces. Pay them no mind. You alone know that you are capable of a love greater than anything they can comprehend. You alone know that you are not willing to sell your identity and respect to the first smirking halfwit to pass by. It is not cynicism. It is reverence for your own vast and fathomless heart, and it makes sense only to love someone who understands that and is awed by it.
You will not always get what you want when you want it. Accept it. Your goals are not set in stone and you are not on a fixed trajectory. Sometimes, life will take its time and you will have to play the long, interminable game. Play it well and with as much grace as you can muster. Live at your own pace.
At night, you will occasionally wake up afraid, wanting to die. Don’t give in. Night plays its tricks, but you are not so easily fooled. Your mind will play its tricks, too. It will make you believe that you’re not who you are, but you must not give in. You take a breath and you tell yourself that you are here. That you always were.
”—Practical Advice for Difficult Women (#20 - 9th December)
Librarian Allie Jane Bruce took a group of sixth graders to Barnes & Noble to examine whitewashing on book covers, and this is what they had to say:
“It was sickening to look at all the stereotypes, the assumptions.”
“I think I was on the girls’ side of the bookshelf, but even so, that just shows that Barnes & Noble separates their books by gender.”
“I know that kids’ minds aren’t developed enough to understand these issues, but as they grow up, I hope they realize how serious this issue really is. People have the right to like any color they want and be anything they want to be.”
“Society is almost afraid of putting a dark-skinned or Asian character on the cover of a book. I feel like these are minor forms of segregation.”
“I didn’t see a book with a biracial main character … it is not fair in any way.”
“In the chapter book section, I saw that most of the books that had non-Caucasian characters didn’t have that character on the cover.
“On the covers, I saw thin, pretty girls. I didn’t see any overweight girls or anyone with acne. I think that these covers shape an idea of perfect in a girl’s mind, and make them want to be like that, even though everyone was born perfect.”
I wish this unit were taught to every sixth grade class in the country. Full article here.
“In one generation, working for free for people who can pay you went from something laughable, to something wealthy people were doing in a few fields, to something everyone was recommended to do, to something almost everyone has to do. Entry-level jobs were replaced with unpaid internships. That same monopoly on opportunity reshaped lower-skill labor. Jobs that once offered on-site training now require college degrees. In response, universities ramp up tuition, knowing that students have little choice but to pay to compete. Instead of options, there is one path to professional success — one exorbitantly expensive path.”—At PolicyMic, Sarah Kendzior explains why you should never ever take an unpaid internship (but you will nonetheless because you have no choice). do you ever wanna talk about a thing but you know you already talk about it too much and your friends are sick of hearing about it so instead you just hold it all inside you and constantly feel like you’re gonna burst?
like imagine if you’d never seen a dog and you saw a saint bernard and you were like, what’s that and then someone was like, thats a dog. and then you saw a chihuahua and you were like ok whats that and they were like, that’s a dog. wouldn’t you feel lied to? wouldn’t you sense that something was amiss
